Training Philosophy & Session Breakdown
Developing Smart, Confident & Creative Players
Welcome to the Ole Soccer Academy family!
Our mission goes beyond teaching children how to kick a soccer ball. We want to develop smart, confident, creative, and independent players who understand the game and know how to make good decisions on the field.
We believe that learning how to play the game is just as important as learning individual skills. Players need to understand where to move, when to pass, when to dribble, how to create space, and how to respond to different situations during a match.
That is why every Ole Soccer Academy training session is built around four progressive phases.
1. 🔥 Warm-Up
Prepare the Body. Activate the Mind.
Every session begins by preparing the players physically and mentally.
Rather than simply running laps or doing exercises without the ball, we use fun, soccer-specific activities whenever possible. Players begin moving, touching the ball, making decisions, and interacting with teammates from the very beginning of the session.
The goal is to get the body ready while also getting the mind ready to play.
2. âš˝ Technical Training
Build the Tools Every Player Needs
Once players are ready, we focus on the technical foundation of the game.
Players work on essential skills such as:
  • Passing
  • Receiving and first touch
  • Dribbling
  • Ball control
  • Turning and changing direction
  • Finishing
But technique is not simply about performing a skill correctly in isolation.
We teach players when, where, and why to use each skill so they can eventually perform it naturally during a game—even when under pressure.
3. 🧠 Tactical Training
Teach the Game, Not Just the Drill
This is where players begin to develop soccer intelligence.
Instead of spending the entire session repeating predetermined movements, we create situations that require players to observe, think, decide, and act.
Players learn concepts such as:
  • Finding and creating space
  • Supporting teammates
  • Positioning themselves correctly
  • Attacking as a group
  • Defending as a unit
  • Recognizing when to pass, dribble, or move
  • Making decisions under pressure
Our goal is to help players become problem-solvers on the field.
4. 🏆 Game Situations
Put Learning Into Action
The final phase brings everything together.
Through small-sided games, scrimmages, and match-like situations, players have the opportunity to apply the skills and concepts they have learned.
This is where coaching becomes learning through experience.
Players make decisions, make mistakes, solve problems, adjust, and try again—all in an environment that allows them to experience the game.
We don't want players who only know how to perform drills. We want players who know how to play soccer.
🎯 Why Do We Use Cone Goals?
Parents sometimes notice that we use two cones as goals instead of traditional popup or PUG goals.
This is intentional.
The objective is not simply to make scoring easier or harder. The objective is to teach players accuracy, awareness, and purposeful execution.
🎯 Smaller Targets Encourage Accuracy
With a smaller target, players cannot simply kick the ball toward a large goal and hope it goes in.
They must pick a target and execute.
âš˝ Encourage Controlled Finishing
Cone goals encourage players to keep their shots controlled and accurate rather than relying only on power.
Players learn that a well-placed shot can be more effective than simply kicking the ball as hard as possible.
đź‘€ Look Up & Pick Your Target
To successfully score between two cones, players need to recognize the target before executing the shot.
This encourages an important habit:
Look → Decide → Execute.
That same habit is valuable when passing, finishing, or playing under pressure during a real match.
🧠 Technique + Intelligence
The purpose of cone-goal training is bigger than finishing.
It helps reinforce habits involving precision, decision-making, ball control, passing, and awareness.
We want players to understand that soccer is not simply about power.
Soccer is about making the right decision and executing it well.
5. 🌱 Player Development
Development Over Age
At Ole Soccer Academy, we understand that every player develops at a different pace.
Two children of the same age can have very different levels of experience, technical ability, confidence, and understanding of the game.
For that reason, when appropriate, we group players according to their development and ability—not simply their age.
Our goal is to make sure players are placed in an environment where they are:
challenged enough to grow, but supported enough to succeed.
A player who is ready for a greater challenge should have the opportunity to experience it. Likewise, a player who needs more time to develop should have the environment and support necessary to build confidence.
This may mean that a younger player trains with older players when their technical ability, maturity, and understanding of the game make them ready for that challenge.
Our philosophy is simple:
The right challenge creates the right development.
We don't believe every player needs to move up as quickly as possible. We believe every player deserves to be placed where they can learn, compete, gain confidence, and continue improving.
6 .âš˝ Our Philosophy in One Sentence
We don't just teach children how to play soccer—we teach them how to understand the game.
At Ole Soccer Academy, our goal is to develop players who can think, decide, execute, and compete with confidence.
Technical ability gives players the tools.
Tactical understanding teaches them how to use those tools.
Game situations teach them when to use them.
That is how we help young players become better soccer players—and better decision-makers on the field.
